Expecting a baby

Choose your baby’s pediatrician before the birth

Book a free prenatal visit with Dr. Viswanadham, also called a meet-and-greet, by calling or texting (770) 615-7000. Your baby is then seen in our office 2–3 days after you go home. Medicaid and PeachCare accepted.

From pregnancy to the first weeks

What happens, step by step

  1. Step 1: Third trimester: book the free prenatal visit

Call or text (770) 615-7000 to book it, usually between 28 and 32 weeks. About 20 minutes with Dr. Viswanadham, which many parents call a meet-and-greet. See the office, ask about feeding, vaccines and safe sleep, and leave knowing who to call from the hospital.

  2. Step 2: Sign up for the free newborn workshop

Once a month Dr. Viswanadham teaches parents and babies song, tummy time and baby massage. Sign up now; you do not need to be a patient yet.

  3. Step 3: At the hospital

Families deliver at many different hospitals, and the hospital’s newborn team examines your baby. Tell them Dare2Care Pediatrics is your pediatrician.

  4. Step 4: First office visit, 2–3 days after you go home

Call or text (770) 615-7000 on the day you leave the hospital. We check weight, jaundice and feeding, and we hold same-week slots for newborns.

Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare

Your baby will be on Georgia Medicaid: what to do

  1. Step 1: Before you are admitted

Give the hospital our details as your baby’s pediatrician: Dare2Care Pediatrics, 5460 McGinnis Village Pl, Suite 103, Alpharetta, GA 30005, (770) 615-7000. Northside asks for the pediatrician’s name, address and phone before admission.

  2. Step 2: Your baby is covered from birth

If you have Medicaid or PeachCare for Kids on the day your baby is born, your baby is covered from the birth month through the month they turn 1, with no application. This does not apply if you only had presumptive eligibility or Planning for Healthy Babies. In that case, call DFCS at 1-877-423-4746 about coverage for your baby.

  3. Step 3: Tell your plan and DFCS about the birth

The hospital can send a newborn notice, but call your plan’s member services yourself and say you had your baby. DFCS asks for changes such as a birth within 10 days: on Georgia Gateway (Report My Change) or at 1-877-423-4746.

  4. Step 4: Choose us as your baby’s PCP on the same call

Your baby joins your plan. Ask for Dare2Care Pediatrics as the primary care provider: Amerigroup 1-800-600-4441, CareSource 1-855-202-0729, Peach State 1-800-704-1484. If you do not choose, the plan assigns a doctor. At Amerigroup that happens 30 days after the birth.

Free, once a month

What happens at the newborn baby massage workshop?

Dr. Viswanadham runs a free group workshop for parents and their babies once a month, on a weekday evening at the office (in 2025, 5:30 to 7:30 pm). She describes it in the video below. In order:

  1. Settling in. The babies get comfortable on play mats and look around at everything, including each other.
  2. Lullabies in different languages. Song, touch and looking into your baby’s eyes.
  3. Tummy time together. Babies watch each other and their own faces in a mirror and play with rattles and toys. Bottle and breastfeeding breaks happen whenever a baby needs one.
  4. Massage. Coconut oil, olive oil or an unscented healing ointment all work. Touching each group of muscles helps your baby’s body learn where it is in space.
  5. Hand and footprints in non-toxic paint, to take home.

“The key is that we’re teaching techniques to be present,” she says. First-time parents often come because they are nervous and want guidance, but every baby is different, so parents of a second or fifth baby come too. The idea is to leave with a new daily habit, not just a nice evening.

One-on-one after the birth. If a group does not suit you, you can book a private newborn session with Dr. Viswanadham instead.

For your newborn

What you get at Dare2Care Pediatrics

  • One care team, from before birth to 21

You meet Dr. Viswanadham, who leads the care team, before the birth. Your baby’s care is then led by her or by Dr. Adam Ayer, DNP, a pediatric nurse practitioner, with our staff and one shared chart through age 21, so everyone on the team knows your family and your child’s history.

  • Seen within days of going home

A first visit 2–3 days after discharge, same-week slots held for newborns, and same-day sick visits on weekdays.

  • Medicaid and PeachCare accepted

Georgia Medicaid, PeachCare for Kids and the Georgia Families plans, plus most commercial insurance. See the insurance page for the list.

  • Help with feeding

Breastfeeding or formula, we check how feeding is going at every early visit and refer you to a lactation consultant when you need more help.

  • English or Spanish

Dr. Viswanadham sees families in English and Spanish, without an interpreter.

  • A recognized medical home

NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home: one team that coordinates specialists, therapists and early intervention if your baby needs them.

Questions

What expecting parents ask us

When should I choose a pediatrician?

In the third trimester, so you have a pediatrician to name at the hospital. Book the free prenatal visit any time after about 28 weeks.

Do I need to be a patient to join the workshop?

No. The monthly workshop is free, and you can sign up before your baby is born, whether or not you have joined the practice.

What should I bring to the baby massage workshop?

Your baby, a blanket, and a bottle or whatever you need for a feed. If your baby’s skin is sensitive, bring the oil or unscented ointment you already use.

Does Dr. Viswanadham see my baby in the hospital?

Families deliver at many different hospitals, so the hospital’s newborn team examines your baby before discharge. Tell them Dare2Care Pediatrics is your pediatrician, then call or text (770) 615-7000 to book the first office visit 2–3 days after you go home.

My baby will be on Medicaid. Can we come to you?

Yes. We accept Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids, including Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan. Choose Dare2Care Pediatrics as your baby’s primary care provider with the plan.

What if I have questions before the birth?

Call or text (770) 615-7000 on weekdays from 9 to 5. After hours the main number goes to our after-hours line.
