Video visits

Telemedicine visits at Dare2Care Pediatrics

Established patients can see their provider by video on weekdays. Call or text to book, and your provider sends a secure smugme.ai link by text or email at the time of the visit.

Life-threatening emergency? Call 911.

Call us first

Call (770) 615-7000 any time. When the office is closed, the call goes to our after-hours line, and the clinician on call can help you decide whether it can wait until morning, needs urgent care or needs the emergency department.

Same-day sick visits Monday to Friday, in the office or by video.

Is video right for this?

Which visits work by video?

Rashes, pink eye, medication follow-ups and behavioral health check-ins often work well by video. Fevers in babies and breathing problems need to be seen in person.

If your provider decides during the call that your child needs an exam or a test, we book an office visit, usually the same day.

Not sure which one you need? Tell us when you call or text and we will decide with you. For the difference between our office and urgent care, read Urgent care or your pediatrician?.

How it works

How does a video visit work?

  1. Step 1: Call or text to book

Call or text (770) 615-7000 on a weekday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM and ask for a video visit. We give you a time.

  2. Step 2: Your provider sends a link

At your visit time, your provider sends a text or an email to the phone number or email address on your child’s chart. It contains a secure link to your visit.

  3. Step 3: Tap the link to join

Open it on a phone, tablet or computer with a camera. Allow the camera and microphone when your browser asks.

  4. Step 4: Your provider joins you

You may wait a moment while your provider finishes with the patient before you. Prescriptions go to your pharmacy and notes go into your child’s chart, as after an office visit.

Privacy

Which platform do we use for video visits?

Dare2Care Pediatrics uses smugme.ai for video visits and for the text and email invitations that start them. smugme.ai is built to meet HIPAA privacy and security rules, and it has signed a Business Associate Agreement with the practice. That agreement holds smugme.ai to the same rules for protecting your child’s health information that we follow.

The visit note goes into your child’s chart, as after an office visit. Patient portal messages, forms and phone calls stay where they are today.

Staying safe

How do I know the invite is really from us?

A real invite names Dare2Care Pediatrics, arrives only after you booked a visit with us, and its link goes to smugme.ai. It never asks for a card number, your patient portal password or your child’s Social Security number.

If a message looks wrong, do not tap it. Call us at (770) 615-7000 and we will send a new one.

Before the call

What should I have ready?

  • Your child, awake and in the room with you
  • A quiet spot with good light, and a charged phone or a laptop
  • A temperature reading from today, if your child has a fever
  • The names and doses of any medicines your child takes
  • Your pharmacy’s name and location

For a rash or an eye problem, find the brightest light in the house before the call. Your provider may ask you to hold the camera close.

Questions

What parents ask about video visits

Who can have a video visit?

Established patients of Dare2Care Pediatrics, on weekdays during office hours. Your child must be in Georgia at the time of the visit. That includes college students who are home on a break.

Can I start a video visit on my own?

No. There is no waiting room to open. Call or text (770) 615-7000 to book, and your provider sends the link when it is time.

Is a video visit private?

Yes. The visit runs on smugme.ai, which has signed a Business Associate Agreement with the practice under HIPAA. Only you, your child, your provider and anyone they add with your agreement, such as an interpreter, are in the visit. Join from a private spot, as you would for a phone call with the doctor.

What if the video drops during the visit?

Tap the link in the invite again to rejoin. If it does not reconnect, your provider calls you at the phone number on your child’s chart.

Is a video visit covered by insurance?

Georgia Medicaid and most commercial plans cover video visits. Ask us when you book if you are unsure about your plan, or see insurance plans we accept.

What happened to the old doxy.me link?

We stopped using doxy.me. Video visits now start from the link your provider sends you. If you saved the old link, you can delete it.
