Dare2Care Pediatrics is a teaching practice. High-school and college students shadow our doctors, clinical students complete preceptorships here, and many who go on to medical and nursing careers stay connected for mentorship for years. Opportunities are ongoing.

Ways to learn here
Shadowing for high-school and college students
Supervised observation in a working pediatric practice for students considering medicine, nursing and allied health, including a summer program.
Clinical preceptorships
A preceptor site for students from Bethel University and Mercer University clinical programs, with hands-on learning under direct supervision of Dr. Viswanadham and Dr. Ayer.
Case discussions and teaching
Not observation alone: regular case discussions, teaching on development, behavioral health and special-needs care, and feedback on clinical reasoning.
Mentorship
Students on a medical track often stay in touch long after a rotation ends, for guidance on applications, interviews, specialty choice and the realities of practice. Several students Dr. Viswanadham has mentored are now in medical school, and others have gone on to residency.
Externships and projects
Longer placements for students who want to work on a project, from patient education materials to community workshops.
A diverse, community-focused setting
Care in English and Spanish, families with Medicaid and commercial insurance, and a large special-needs population: a broad view of pediatrics in one office.
Why we teach
Where the next pediatricians come from
Dr. Viswanadham and Dr. Ayer both came to pediatrics through teachers who took the time. Teaching is how they return that, and it keeps the practice sharp: students ask why, and the answers have to be good.
The mentorship lasts. Students who shadowed here in high school have come back through college and medical school for advice, and several are now in medical school or residency. That path, from a first day of shadowing to a white coat, is the outcome we care about most.
Students never provide care on their own and never handle patient information outside the office. Families are always told when a student is present and can decline. Every student completes privacy training and signs a confidentiality agreement before the first day.

Expectations for students
- A genuine interest in children’s health and a professional manner with families
- Privacy training and a signed confidentiality agreement before the first day
- Up-to-date immunizations and any health screening the placement requires
- For clinical students, an active placement through your program
- Reliability: agreed days and hours, and notice when plans change
- Curiosity: come with questions and bring cases to discuss

How do I ask about shadowing or a placement?

Do I need to be in a health program already?
No. Shadowing is open to high-school and college students exploring medicine, nursing and allied health. Clinical preceptorships are for students enrolled in a program that places them here.
Is there a fee, or is it paid?
Neither. Shadowing and preceptorships are educational placements, not employment, and there is no charge to students.
Do you write letters of recommendation?
For students who have spent meaningful time with us and shown the qualities a letter should describe, yes. Ask early so the letter can be specific.
