Nutrition

Nutrition care covers feeding from the first bottle to the teenage athlete: starting solids, picky eating, food allergies, healthy weight, iron and vitamin D, and support for disordered eating, integrated with your child’s regular visits.

About nutrition

Food questions come up at every age. We fold nutrition into well visits and offer dedicated visits when a concern needs more time.

Common reasons families see us

  • Starting solids and preventing food allergies
  • Picky eating and toddlers who “live on air”
  • Growth that is faster or slower than expected
  • Iron deficiency, vitamin D and vegetarian or vegan diets
  • Sports nutrition and hydration
  • Disordered eating and body image concerns in preteens and teens

When to come in

  • Your child’s growth curve is changing direction
  • Meals are a daily battle
  • You suspect a food allergy or intolerance
  • Your teen is restricting, skipping meals or over-exercising

What to expect at the visit

Bring a three-day food diary if you can. We review growth, diet and labs, then agree on two or three practical changes rather than a whole new way of eating.

Need help outside office hours?

When the office is closed, call the main number, (770) 615-7000. After hours the call goes to our after-hours line for urgent concerns. Use the patient portal for anything that can wait until the next business day. In an emergency, call 911.

Questions parents ask

When should I start solid foods?

Around 6 months, when your baby sits with support, holds their head steady and shows interest in food. Introduce peanut and egg early, in age-appropriate forms, to reduce allergy risk.
